Summertime

Camden and Maris spent the day a week ago.  Maris didn't feel so great.  She threw up as they pulled in the driveway and then stayed pretty close to the bathroom all morning.  But she did feel better in the afternoon and here she and Camden were flying high on the trampoline.  Camden was a flying bat.

What is more fun than grandchildren?

Minnesota or Bust

We spent some quality time in Minnesota last month.  Alan likes to go watch basketball with Nathan during March Madness, and I decided to join them.  I made it out on the last flight, but Alan had to return to the airport the next morning and take the 6:30 a.m. flight.  I flew alone, feeling guilty  that I was going to be the first one there--and it was Alan's party.

We weren't staying long, so I brought Five Little Ducklings, a book Emmy and I had read over and over while they visited in November.  I thought that would speed up "the warming-up-to-grandparents" period.  It did!  Emmy got right to business reading books--and I was so happy!

I was so busy looking how cute Emmy's is, I didn't notice that her bow was upside down.  Ooops!

I was in Grandma heaven.  Emmy let me hold her, read to her, and love her.  She and I went for a walk together one afternoon.  Emmy chased the robins, yelling, "Bir."  I couldn't help adding the "d' sound, just like in Bambi.

Emmy learned how to say "Bampa," which made Grandpa very happy.  She has a mirror above her car seat, and when she saw Grandpa get into the front seat, she would call Bampa!
More and more and more stories.
Another favorite activity:  The magic carpet ride!
This game is:  Let Daddy chase me and scream like crazy.
The weather threatened rain each day, but we were able to go for walks each morning.  Emmy decided to hold my hand all through the walk.  Way to win my heart.
Emmy still loves her Tigger toy.
She has grown up into a booster chair.
Nathan and Briana bent over backwards to make us feel welcome.  Briana made delicious food.  We played games together.  What a cute family!
Can't wait to visit again.

Maris Turns Five!

What is more fun than celebrating when a sweet grandchild turning five?  The only thing I can think of is celebrating twice.
Celebration #1 was last Saturday.  Maris had her birthday party at the aquatic center near their home.  She is big on sticking out her tongue lately.
Visiting with Brian who is looking very tan.
Camden was much happier than he looks here.

 He looked so grown up!
It was a Hello Kitty theme party, and Brandy's friend made this darling cake.

All the kids had a great time in the pool.  We toyed with the idea of being fun grandparents and going swimming, but decided "being fun" isn't all it's cracked up to be. :)

We had a great time shopping for Hello Kitty presents and were excited that Maris loved the toy and flip flops.  We found the cutest umbrella.  I hope it rains sometime so Maris can use it.
Brandy was the perfect hostess, keeping everyone happy.

Celebration #2.  Sunday we enjoyed our monthly dinner together, so we decided to do more celebrating for Maris' upcoming birthday.  I tried my hand at making Hello Kitty cupcakes. I did some white ones to look like Hello Killy, then tried some pink ones because Maris wanted white cupcakes with pink frosting.

Alicia and Erik surprised us at the last minute.  They didn't think they would be able to come.  We were so happy!  Does she show or not?
Ready to blow out the candle!
Brandy helped with everything.
Camden and Maris worked hard making some words with play doh.
Two fun celebrations.  Happy Birthday Maris!
